A day in Bratislava, Slovakia Wanderlust @25

“It is always sad to leave a place to which one knows one will never return. Such are the melancolies du voyage: perhaps they are one of the most rewarding things about traveling.” – Gustave Flaubert

Bratislava is a small city and is the capital of Slovakia. My husband and I visited it for a day (just passing through with a trip from Prague to Vienna). If you are on a budget, instead of staying in Vienna, you can stay the night here in Bratislava, which is far less cheaper. Here are some of the squares, monuments, statues and iconic placesthat I can suggest that you visit..

1)From afar, the first thing you will see, high and mighty is the BRATISLAVA CASTLE.

2) MICHAEL’S GATE is one of the only city gates that has been preserved since the 14th century.

3) OLD TOWN HALL is a collection of historic buildings from the 14th century that is beside each other.

4) LUDOVIT STUR STATUE is located in Central Bratislava and is a modernist style of monument Ludovit Stur is a founder of the Slovak language. You can see below an olden style tram.

5) SLOVAK NATIONAL THEATRE is one of the oldest professional theaters.

6) THE UFO BRIDGE & TOWER is the 7th largest hanging bridge in the world. Get a panoramic view of the whole of Bratislava from its observation deck.

7) ST MARTIN’S CATHEDRAL is one of the oldest church in Bratislava. I find it so pretty that’s why I am sharing here several photos of the Roman Catholic church.

8) FOUNTAIN GIRL WITH DEER can be found in the Old Town, Bratislava

9) CUMIL THE SEWER WORKER is a statue of an emerging sewer worker. Nobody knows the story of this, for all we know it may just be a bronze peeping tom.

10) HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON is a popular Danish author of fairy tales. He once visited Bratislava and said that it’s “The most beautiful town.”

The following are some street shots of Bratislava.
