Wanderlust @1 America

“Die with memories, not dreams.” – Unknown

My family and I left our motherland and moved to Melbourne, Australia in the early 90s. I come from the Philippines and you can say that I come from a middle income family (not from the slums as you can see in some documentaries but also not rich as the likes of the Marcoses). But still, travelling was not in our minds because it was very unaffordable at that time. Not like in present times when there are so many budget airlines, back then only the rich people can dream of going overseas.

“Wanderlust” is lust (or “desire”) for wandering. The word comes from German, in which wandern means “to wander,” and Lust means “desire.”

The very first time I felt this ‘wanderlust’ was in 2005 when I started to plan our first overseas trip to America. Of course my kids were excited, they were then 11 and 15 years old. … but it was I and my husband who was more excited because we can now fulfil our childhood dream of going to Disneyland! Disneyland was everything that we dreamt of… Disneyland is indeed the happiest place on earth!

Patricia tried all the rides and had to have a signature from all the Disney characters.

While my son, Tim, since he was in the brink of teenhood, just wanted to stay cool and didn’t want his photo taken much … except with Captain Hook. (he is a Peter Pan fan).

Second place to visit was California Disney.

Then next stop was Universal Studios

Then Sea World

Then San Francisco

Then Las Vegas

No Face Book, no Instagram, no IPhone back then…. if it was today, i would have had a thousand photos. They say treasure the moment by looking at the sceneries and not by taking photos… but at my age, I say take as much photos as you can and relive the memories by looking back at your photos.
