The Golden Gate to Versailles – Wanderlust @94

“No one realises how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow.” – Lin Yutang

The Palace of Versailles is perhaps the most opulent and beautiful palace in Europe. This was once home to kings and queens of France. It is one of the most important places in France and is now recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

This is the golden entry gate to The Palace of Versailles.

The half dome decorated with Charles de la Fosse’s The Resurrection of Christ. Underneath is the chapel’s organ which was built in 1709 – 1710.

Ceiling entitled Apotheose d’Hercule ( Apostheosis of Hercules).

A spectacular room is the Hall of Mirrors. It is a 235 foot long lined on both sides with huge mirrored arches. And it is fantastic how the paintings in the ceiling spilled over to the walls on both sides. The glass used in the sculptures are just amazing!

On the opposite side of the arched windows of the Hall of Mirrors is a row of doors which open up to the gardens. Such an amazing view.

  1. Know several people who have been at Versailles, but I never saw this many images of it. My world, never seen so much gold on objects in an opulent interior. And the garden – exquisite – it gives the illusion of floating! Many thanks for capturing this for all of us!
