The Palace of Versailles is perhaps the most opulent and beautiful palace in Europe. This was once home to kings and queens of France. It is one of the most important places in France and is now recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
For Norm’s Thursday Doors Challenge.
This is the golden entry gate to The Palace of Versailles.
Statue of Paix (Peace) on one side of the gate of the palace.
Inside the entry door of Chateau de Versailles with the view of the people on queue.
The half dome decorated with Charles de la Fosse’s The Resurrection of Christ. Underneath is the chapel’s organ which was built in 1709 – 1710.
Ceiling entitled Apotheose d’Hercule ( Apostheosis of Hercules).
A spectacular room is the Hall of Mirrors. It is a 235 foot long lined on both sides with huge mirrored arches. And it is fantastic how the paintings in the ceiling spilled over to the walls on both sides. The glass used in the sculptures are just amazing!
On the opposite side of the arched windows of the Hall of Mirrors is a row of doors which open up to the gardens. Such an amazing view.

Looks just like our house. 🙂 Cough, cough. Quite something, isn’t it, but easy to do when you don’t have to make the money yourself to pay for it. Still a bit over the top for me, even if I had the money.

Know several people who have been at Versailles, but I never saw this many images of it. My world, never seen so much gold on objects in an opulent interior. And the garden – exquisite – it gives the illusion of floating! Many thanks for capturing this for all of us!

Great shots of a remarkable place. It’s impossible to not appreciate the artwork and craftsmanship that was put into this place but at the same time the obscene opulence is quite maddening.
