A few hours travel from Rome took us to our next destination … Pisa. From the common tour bus parking, you need to ride a mini train in order to reach the Walking Street.

The Walking Street is a nice place to walk around and it took us to various restaurants, cafes and gelato shops. First thing we saw is this pedestrian act which was quite interesting. On the other side of the road were lots of gypsies selling watches, souvenirs, aprons, magnets, etc.

Pisa is just a small place, the whole tourist area can be explored on foot for an hour or two. But you shouldn’t miss it even for only to view the Pisa Square of Miracles. This square was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and it is surrounded by a beautiful green lawn where tourists and locals can relax and sit down (despite all the signs that says otherwise).

PISA BAPISTERY is a splendid example of the Pisan Romanesque and Gothic style architecture.

This round shaped Bapistery of Pisa welcomes visitors who enter the Piazza dei Miracoli. This is the largest bapistery in Italy standing at 55 m, with a circumference of 100 m.

PISA CATHEDRAL is the main church as well as the Archbishop’s office. This is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. The facade of the cathedral is made of pastel- coloured marble and the design is so fine that it looks like emproidery.

The interior of Pisa Cathedral has a mixture of the Renaissance and the Medieval architecture. In 1959, there was a fire in the cathedral that resulted in the destruction of most of the Medieval parts and the rest were rebuilt in the Renaissance style which was popular during that time.

Like most interiors of cathedrals in Italy, this one is full of bronze and gilded statues, paintings and mosaics of angels. This cathedral is really a work of art!

This is the tomb of Emperor Henry VII originally sculpted by Tino di Camaino and it is one of the surviving medieval pieces.

LEANING TOWER OF PISA is a campanille or freestanding bell tower of the Pisa Cathedral. It was made famous because of the nearly four degree lean caused by the shifting of the ground.

But as of 23 November 2018, according to researches by CNN, it is believed that the Leaning Tower has slowly started losing 4 centimeters of the tilt over the past 17 years.*

The Square of Miracles grounds is often full of people and it is so funny to watch all these people trying to stop the Leaning Tower from falling or people trying to push it to the other side. Of course it is the most touristy thing to do so I and my husband had to do it too haha.
