Assisi is a hill town in central Italy’s Umbria region, which is the birthplace of St Francis. He is one of the patron saints of Italy. The Basilica is a 2 level massive church and is recognised as a World Heritage Site.

Assisi overflows with day trippers so it is advisable to go there in the early morning or in the late afternoon.

Here is the Basilica of Saint Francis. It’s surface are all in stone, which has a pink colour during the day and shines white with the light of the moon.

This is the beautiful ornate interior of the Basilica. Some parts of the ceiling has fresco painting.

This is the tomb of St Francis who died in 1226 and was made a saint two years later. This crypt housing the tomb was restored and re-opened in 2011.

Wandering the streets of Assisi.

In the city centre, you will find lots of little shops, mostly religious shops, cafes and there is this little lavender shop that I found so cute!

And we bid farewell to Assisi to continue with our travels.
